Preaching Notes – 14th Sunday (6 July 2025)

And as we face the ever increasingly scarcity of laborers for the harvest in our own day we rightly pray that the LORD send more laborers. In Sunday’ Gospel (Luke 10:1-12, 17-20), Jesus calls every baptized person, to demonstrate our belief in Him by laboring for His harvest.

I am sending you like lambs among wolves (v. 3).

  • This is not going to be easy.
  • Some will want to devour us because we believe in Jesus Christ as LORD and KING and the salvation He offers to everyone through His way of living.

Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals… (v. 4)

  • Intentional disciples know that their deck cannot be stacked but rather their trust is solidly in Jesus to provide all that they need – and more.

Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you… (v. 7)

  • How quickly we can become restless and tempted to move off one place for a more desirable situation.
  • Patiently persevere.

Discipleship is to be practiced wherever we are – in the workplace, the classroom, the neighborhood, in friendships, at home.  It is made possible by depending totally upon the One who sends us into the world as His own. In doing so, our names are written in heaven (v. 20).
