WHY CONFIRMATION?
The Sacrament of Confirmation is a milestone moment Jesus established for us to receive.
The Sacrament of Confirmation anchors us more solidly in the Catholic Faith and better prepares us for our adventure that is God’s gift of life.
As the third and final Sacrament of Initiation (together with Baptism and Eucharist), the recipient of Confirmation is equipped by grace – God’s power – to begin a more meaningful and impactful walk with Christ Jesus as a member of His Church.
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
“By the Sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence, they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” (CCC, 1285).

CHOOSING A SPONSOR
At Confirmation, we select a SPONSOR who is meant to provide strong Christian support and encouragement. Only one (1) sponsor is selected. The sponsor may be a man or a woman. The sponsor accepts the lifelong commitment to help their candidate grow in understanding and practice of the Catholic Faith.
Requirements to be a Sponsor:
- Must be 16 years old
- May not be a parent or legal guardian of the child
- Must have received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation
- Living a life of faith befitting the role (regularly attend Mass, lives according to Catholic teaching)

Sponsor’s Baptismal Certificate
The potential sponsor must ask the parish where they were baptized to mail the Sponsor’s baptismal certificate to the name and address above.

At Confirmation, we select the name of a SAINT – a friend of God – who inspires us and whose personal qualities we want to imitate.
TIP! The name must be the name of a saint who has been canonized by the Catholic Church or from the Bible.

BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE FOR 8TH-GRADE CHILD
DUE: November 1
A Baptismal Certificate is a requirement for Confirmation. For those who were not baptized at Christ the King, please contact the Parish where the baptism occurred to request that they mail the Baptismal Certificate to Christ the King. Copies that you may have cannot be accepted.
