Feast Day: Martyrdom of John the Baptist – 29 August 2024

JOHN THE BAPTIST is the only saint whom we honor on both the occasion of his birth and his death. The Church wants to inspire us by his lively courage, fueled by a tireless desire to be led by divine providence, no matter the obstacles that arise.  The Baptist’s trusted counsel is neither himself nor the networking of the worldly powerful: only God.

Everyone daring to follow closely in the footsteps of Christ will experience difficult moments. Like the Baptist, those trusting in God – intentional disciples – navigate difficulties, however intense, as opportunities to connect with God by growing ever more dependent upon Him.
Unlike the Baptist, the martyrdom God asks of us is keeping lively faith in the face of worldly sarcasm, scorn and division.
St. John the Baptist, pray for us and pray with us!
