Jesus Speaks God’s Word

Taking place around 1400 B.C., God announces through Moses that there is going to be a future prophet and we will listen to him:

“I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their kindred, and will put my words into the mouth of the prophet; the prophet shall tell them all that I command” (Deuteronomy 18:18).

This prophet is none other than Jesus Christ.

In Sunday’s Gospel, we heard Jesus preaching with authority. No one has ever taught like Jesus. He did not rely on anyone else, speaking and acting as though He Himself is God’s Word.

To speak with authority is nary about piercing decibel levels nor presentation sparkle. Indeed, when the Gospel attests that Jesus speaks with authority it means He exercises authority over all things – that is, power over all spirits, power over all nature.

Jesus exercises unbridled authority because He does in fact speak directly as God’s Word.

Friends, today and throughout this week let us place everything that threatens our inner peace before Jesus. Let us make our way to Him and place ourselves under His authority for Him to heal us, to awaken us, to restore us and to set us free from all that is not of Him.
