“My Lord and My God!” (John 20:28)
These words were piously uttered by Thomas when he first encountered the Risen Lord Jesus. They have been echoed throughout the Christian millennia as an expression of heartfelt desire for God. Uttered sincerely and repeatedly, they help us deepen our faith and love for the Risen Lord Jesus in daily living.
So, too, are these words expressed as an act of faith in the real presence and power of the Risen Lord Jesus in the Eucharist. As a child, I took on this very practice of my parents, whispering these words whenever passing in front of the Tabernacle and also at the Consecration of the Mass when the priest at the altar held high the Sacred Host and Precious Chalice.
