Preaching Notes – 6th Sunday of Easter (10 May 2026)

In today’s Gospel, Jesus expects our love of Him to be lived: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

Aware we are of our inability to live His commandments unconditionally, Jesus reveals that we will not have to do this on our own.

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you always” (John 14:16).

Notice Jesus’ promise to send us another Advocate. Our first Advocate is Jesus Himself, the Son sent to us by the Father so that we who believe in Him as Lord, Savior, Messiah and King, will be rescued from the captivity of sin and receive the fullness of life eternal.  Pentecost will be the event fulfilling the promise for our reception of another Advocate.

Come, O Most Holy Spirit!
