Preaching Notes – Forgiveness Series 2 of 3 (March 9, 2025)

Matthew 26:26-28

26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Jesus gives His very blood for the forgiveness of sins. He is the source of forgiveness. He offers his life for the forgiveness of sins.

When we receive forgiveness from Christ, we have the power to forgive those who offend and hurt us.

With God’s help, I have the power to forgive anything. That doesn’t mean that I’m willing to forgive anything or that forgiveness will be easy.

My forgiving does not depend on anyone else’s behavior or permission.

Forgiveness is an act between one person and God.

Reconciliation is between two people and God. Assuredly, there may be very good reasons why someone I forgive, with God’s help, is someone with whom I will remain unreconciled. For example, it may not be safe physically, emotionally or spiritually to have any interaction with the person ever again. God may not want reconciliation and instead instructs me to move on an not look back.
