Before the event of Pentecost (Acts 2), Jesus readies the disciples to receive the Holy Spirit.

The Risen Lord Jesus appeared to the disciples for forty days speaking about the kingdom of God and, before His ascension into heaven, told the disciples they are to, “wait for the promise of the Father” (Acts 1:4).

Shortly thereafter, Jesus explains the promise of the Father: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you will be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8).

Filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2), the disciples go and tell others about Jesus who was dead and now is alive.
