God does not excuse, He forgives.
If we do not know the difference between excusing and forgiving, we are doomed to misunderstand both. Excusing is easy and cheap. If I am able to be excused, I do not need to be forgiven. Forgiving is hard and costly – it is necessary when my actions are inexcusable.
The Cross of Christ is hardly easy and it sure isn’t cheap. He did not suffer and die to excuse us, but to save us through forgiving Love.
